We are happy to announce that Aldo Arellano has received a Gilliam Fellowship for Advanced Study from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute! The goals of the Gilliam program are to ensure that students from groups historically excluded from and underrepresented in science are prepared to assume leadership roles in science and science education, and to foster the development of a healthier, more inclusive academic scientific ecosystem by partnering with faculty and institutions committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the sciences.
As a Gilliam Adviser, Kerri will participate in annual culturally responsive mentorship development training offered through the program. She will also receive financial support from HHMI to address challenges to diversity and inclusion at the graduate level at UW-Madison. Stay tuned to hear more about how Kerri plans to use these funds in the near future.
Congratulations, Aldo, and many thanks to HHMI and the Gilliam Fellowships program for recognizing our commitment to creating a healthy academic ecosystem and Aldo’s potential for scientific leadership!
